ARCHITECTURE THAT PROGRESSES

Architecture may be said to be progressing when it increases the capacity of people and places to participate in shared systems of health, learning, dwelling, resources and opportunity.

In this reading, the Commons is not an architectural type or a destination in itself. It is the condition towards which these capacities converge.

Health → Learning → Housing → Territory → Commons

The proposition is therefore not that architecture should produce more things, but that it should contribute to the conditions through which things, knowledge, resources and opportunities can be shared.
